What is Stuccoing?

Stuccoing is an umbrella term for finishing walls and ceilings with different types of mortars such as plaster, cement or lime. Stuccoing can be used both for levelling surfaces and for creating decorative textures. Stuccoing is suitable for both indoor or outdoor finishing.

What is the difference between plastering and stuccoing?

All plastering is stuccoing, but not all stuccoing is plastering. Plastering is specifically aimed at finishing interior walls with a smooth coat of plaster, while stuccoing can include a wider range of finishes and materials, for both indoors and outdoors.

What types of stuccoing are there?

Smooth stuccoing

One of the most commonly chosen stucco forms is smooth stuccoing. It provides an even, sleek result, making it ideal for modern interiors. Its seamless finish makes it a popular choice for living rooms, bedrooms and other living spaces where a simplistic look is desired.

Textured spray plastering

Textured spray plastering is a two-part technique in which a rough layer is applied first, followed by a fine or coarse grain. This method saves costs and is efficient, which makes it perfect for large surfaces such as offices and halls. An additional advantage is that it can be applied in various colours, which sometimes makes painting unnecessary.

Concrete look stuccoing

The industrial trend is on the rise, and concrete-look stuccoing is quickly gaining popularity. This style gives walls a robust and modern look reminiscent of raw concrete while still feeling warm and refined. Ideal for accent walls in living rooms or kitchens.

Italian/Venetian stucco

This is the crème de la crème of stuccoing. Italian or Venetian stucco gives walls a luxurious, marble-like appearance. The glossy finish and rich texture make it perfect for rooms where you really want to make an impression, such as an entrance hall or master bedroom.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR STUCCO TO DRY?

The drying time of stucco depends on several factors, such as the thickness of the applied material, the type of stucco used, the temperature and humidity in the room, and the available ventilation. In general, each millimetre of stucco requires approximately 1-2 days of drying time. So with stucco that is 2 millimetres thick, it can take 2-4 days before it is completely dry. It is crucial to allow the stucco to dry completely before proceeding to paint or apply wallpaper, otherwise you risk potential problems.

Benefits of stuccoing

Increase the value of your home

A home or building with professionally applied stucco not only looks better, it also increases its value. Potential buyers or tenants see the quality and care that has gone into the finish, which can contribute to a faster sale or rental at a higher price.

Sustainability

Properly applied stucco protects walls against wear, moisture and mould. This protection extends the lifespan of the walls, which saves costs in the long term.

Aesthetics

Stucco is not only functional and durable but can also be seen as a form of art. Different techniques and finishes can drastically change the atmosphere and appearance of a room. From a modern, sleek look with smooth stuccoing, to a rich, luxurious vibe with Venetian stuccoing: the aesthetic possibilities are endless.
